manipulation of power
The European colonial project is maintained and advanced through manipulation of power. Military power, (geo)political power, economic power, cultural power.
Colonial power structures uphold Western hegemony and white supremacy through various forms of institutional power. These power structures safeguard Western interests and colonial profit structures.
Colonial objectives are obscured under thinly-veiled propaganda such as the development narrative, and "Western values" such as justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.
POSSIBLE FUTURES identifies three narrative control mechanisms rife across colonial hegemony, including within the private sector:
Coordinated propaganda
Bread and circuses
DARVO
These hegemonic propaganda mechanisms were developed and refined with colonial innovation, research and development over the six centuries of the colonial project. Greenwashing is simply one of the dynamics arising from these mechanisms.
No adequate reparations have been made for colonial harms inflicted across the Global South.
Colonial justice has not been served.
